The council is only interested in arguments focusing on the "harm" to Dorridge. We suggest focusing your objections on the following points:

  • There is a net increase of just 88 spaces in the car park, insufficient for the store's customers, the 200 staff, other shops and a larger doctors' business.
  • Congestion and pollution from the vast increase in traffic: 450 vehicles an hour at peak times and nine delivery lorries a day*
  • Some 2600 children attend schools within 1 mile. Many walk to school along Station Road. The sharp increase in traffic will gravely affect their safety - and that of elderly patients visiting the GPs or pharmacy
  • This store is far too big for its setting. With a net decrease of just 14.7% on the last plan, Sainsbury’s have failed to address the planners’ previous objection to “the scale, bulk and massing of the development...out of character and incongruous to its setting” – now it has a floodlit rooftop car park.

In all cases the solution is a smaller Sainsbury’s - remember this one is THREE TIMES the size of Tesco Knowle!
